We have been washing our hands with a trickle of water. It takes a long time to wash soap off hands when you only have a trickle of water coming out. This has been going on for several months.
I had become so used to patiently waiting and focusing on the soap to get washed off of my hands, that I’m not sure I remember what the flow used to be like. It is interesting how when things are inconvenient, if you decide to patiently deal with it, you can endure things longer than you thought would be possible.
The other day, my son was praying, and he said something like, “thank you for helping the water to flow better from the faucet.” At first, I didn’t know what he was talking about. Then I remembered that he had mentioned that the water was coming out with a little more force than it was previously.
We are talking about the smallest amount more of water. How great was his gratitude for that small amount! I sat quietly in awe of my son’s ability to not only notice this small change, but his desire to thank his Heavenly Father in prayer about it.
How often do we think or even remember to pray our thanks to Him for even the smallest of blessings? I need to get better at this for sure. I’m grateful for my son’s example.
How often do we notice even the smallest changes in our circumstances? This increase in water flow is very minimal, but it was noticeable to my son. I hadn’t even noticed. Sometimes, God blesses us with small changes. They bring great relief to us. Do we notice those blessings?
There are many inconveniences in this life. If we focus on those, we will miss the bountiful blessings all around us. It is easy to get stuck in our thoughts when we are in a complaining mindset. Try to shake it off and be grateful for something. It will help redirect your thoughts.
If we decide to patiently deal with things that are not convenient, the time will go by quickly and it will not seem like such an inconvenience anymore. These trivial things are forgotten as soon as the inconvenience is removed. The most important thing about this inconvenience in our lives is finding the patience to endure it.
I didn’t realize how true these things are until my son decided to thank God for the blessing of a larger trickle of water coming from the bathroom faucet. I’m so grateful for his example.
