When my husband and I were newlyweds, we lived in a basement. There were only three windows in this basement, and they were only on one side of the living area. I was going through a difficult time, and everything seemed dark. Well, it was dark! Dark in that basement! I remember sitting in the sunny spots on the floor craving the sunlight as much as I possibly could in the winter. During the time where there is little sun, and everything feels cold.
Now, each morning as we begin our day, I tell my children to open the sunshine. Even if it is a cloudy or rainy day. I do this for two reasons:
1. I want as much natural light in our home as possible.
2. I want them to notice for themselves how the light can chase the darkness away. The beautiful symbolism of it.
My son is now in high school, and he gets to attend an early morning seminary class. He loves it so much. I on the other hand very much struggle getting out of bed in the early hours of the day. The other day I was waiting for him, and I noticed the beautiful sunrise. The sky looked like a rainbow with all of the colors vibrantly appearing in the sky. I had this thought come to me:
What an incredible God we have that while he created the earth, He knew that it needed to be in a sphere and to be able to spin and rotate so that all of His children could have access to the sunlight. The times we don’t have access to it, we are needing to sleep. There are also times where we have less sunlight and, in some places, there is absolutely no sunlight for a significant period of time.
In all things, there is opposition. We must know the dark times so that we can notice the times of light. To be able to have joy that time of light. I know this to be true.
As you go through your dark times, remember, it is but for a season. The light is coming back. Seek for it during those troubling times. God sends us angels on earth to attend us. Even so, don’t forget to Open the Sunshine each day.
How can you do that? Find that higher power that you believe in. I myself, believe in a loving Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. I pray. I repent. I read scriptures. I listen to Christian music. I ponder about what I am doing in life and what God is wanting me to do; what he wants me to be. I am careful what I read and what I watch as those things affect my spirit. I try as much as possible to keep that light with me throughout my day. I try to find opportunities to serve others. Sometimes, I get to be the person that is served by angels. Bringing me light when all seems dark.
I just wanted to share this with you today. Now go open your sunshine!
