Give It to God

A few years ago, I was struggling with something very heavy. It was consuming me. No one could take my burden. No one could lighten it enough for me so that I could catch my breath. I was depleted.

I don’t remember why, but I do remember being introduced to the idea that I didn’t have to bear it all alone. I could “give it to God”. I didn’t really understand what that meant.

Why would I give Him my burden when I was meant to bear it? That doesn’t make sense. It wasn’t until I actually did it that the burden lifted and it all made sense to me.

I remember praying in my room. I remember feeling peace come over me. I remember going about my day. I was refreshed. I remember that the load I carried before, that seemed unbearable, was now bearable. I could see the light. I could finally heal. This too, shall pass.

I understand now. We were never meant to bear our burdens alone. Jesus Christ was there with us every moment in the Garden of Gethsemane. God sends to us angels on earth to mourn with us, to help bear our burdens, to bring us light when all seems dark. There are always heavenly angels surrounding us. Can you feel them?

Sometimes I find myself in a similar situation. The burden I carry seems so suffocating that I forget to pray and “give it to God”. God is always waiting for us to communicate with Him. He is always looking for opportunities to help us. Spend time in prayer with Him. He loves to hear from you.

Another thing I heard recently that rings true to me: “Sometimes God calms the storm. Other times, God calms the person as they endure the storm.”

I have felt this. That day, God did not take my burden from me, but I felt peace and love. It was all that I needed to endure my storm of life.

I truly wish for you to experience this. Will you try this? Pray. Talk with your Heavenly Father. Tell Him of your burden. Tell Him all of it; how hard it is to bear, how much you hate it, how you wish you were stronger… Whatever your thoughts are, tell Him.

Then when you are done, tell Him that you give it to Him. Wait for the peace to come. Find JOY in your circumstance. Find peace in your connection with God.

Then, after it is done, rise and go about your day. You will notice that things go a little smoother, that you aren’t quite as tired, and you can feel His love and light more.

Write your experience down when you are finished so that you can always remember. There will be a next time. You might have a hard time remembering that all you need to do is “give it to God”.
