In life, we always think that we know the way to our destination. But as we continue on our journey, we will experience challenges and detours. What we thought would be an easy journey, turned out to be a challenging one. Has this ever happened to you on a trip you’ve taken?
I remember going on a road trip out west several years ago. We had a plan for how many miles traveled each day. We had our hotels lined up along the way. It was a great plan. Unfortunately, this was before GPS, and we used MapQuest to plan out our trip. We also had a map in the car to help us find a good way around if we ran into challenges. I’m so grateful for my father and my husband’s father teaching us both in our younger years the importance of learning to read a map and to be able to navigate with it. We did not make it to our hotel destination in the time that we expected, but we did arrive at our destination. We were exhausted and trying to relax from the stress of having to work so hard to find the right road to take.
I remember hearing the harrowing story from a young woman share her testimony at church on Fast and Testimony Sunday. Her family was driving out west for a summer vacation and as they drove, the weather conditions rapidly became harsh, and a tornado touched down near them. They were far enough away to be safe, but close enough to worry about what their immediate future would be. They pulled off to the side of the road and said a prayer.
I remember sitting in church and feeling my heart race as I listened to her story. Would I have had the insight to pray in that moment? Would I have been stuck in my fear and unable to act in faith? I’m so grateful that she shared that story with us that day. I think about it often. It helps me to remember that no matter the sudden and scary storms that can come into our lives, God is always there. This family was safe from that tornado, and they were able to go about their way onto their destination.
Last night I made some changes to this website so that the subscribe button was easier to find. I also needed to fix something wrong with the Instagram page. It is difficult to figure out my website and how to make changes, especially when I’m tired. Sometimes I mess up the settings and have no idea what I did. I was so excited this morning when I finally figured things out. Then I came on here to write my post for the day. Somehow, I messed up my writing format. It won’t let me post an image right now. I have to figure out what I did.
I have hit a detour in my blog. I was frustrated. I don’t know what I did wrong. I stopped and walked away and then I worked out. During the workout, I had an idea. I came back and tried it. It didn’t work. That is ok. I’m still going to write the post today. I know that my destination or goal is to publish an inspirational post each day if possible. Not being able to post an image should not keep me from my goal. I’m going to get there. I just might get lost in some detours along the way.
If you read this post and there is no image with it, just know that I am determined to get it there. It will come eventually.
If you read this post and there is an image with it, know that my determination and my prayers helped me to get to my destination. I have a great photo prepared for it.
I hope this helps encourage you to continue you on with a difficulty that you are struggling with. Are you on the right path? Do you just need to reroute? Take the time that you need to figure it out. Take breaks. Get some rest. Come back when your mind is clear. You’ve got this.
God has given us “maps” to help us figure out how to get back to Him. Through scripture study, prayer and church we will find out way. Trust Him. He will guide you. He is the ultimate GPS.
